The Open Thesis
What This Is
Listening is not enough.
Understanding Burnout began from years of conversations and investigation into burnout in its many forms, clinical, sensory, social, hormonal, founder, and beyond. It sits within Brilliantly Unbalanced, alongside The Sessions, as one open, ongoing thesis rather than a finished system.
Burnout is not read here as a single workplace problem or a personal failing. It is read as permission collapse, a narrowing of what routes stay open to a person, biological, relational, and environmental, before it ever becomes a label. The method is reverse engineering, starting from what stopped, or what became impossible or more difficult, and working backward to what closed it, rather than starting from a label and searching for matching symptoms.
This includes burnout brought on by coercion from others, and burnout that comes from within, whether that is a person's own fear-of-failing architecture, or a coercive pattern once imposed by someone else that has since become trained into their own system.
The same route map applies whether the picture in front of you is autism, ADHD, PDA, overwhelm, M.E. and exhaustion, or perimenopause and menopause. None of these are read in isolation. People are ecosystems, and burnout is what happens when too many of those systems are asked to close at once.
Your stories become education. Case studies, observation, and lived experience sit here alongside the science, as equally valuable sources of understanding.
We work backward from what stopped, or what became impossible or harder, to find the route that closed it.
Self, and SELF
Not all internally-generated burnout is the same. Self-sourced burnout often comes from a person's own fear of failing, perfectionism that predicts failure or shame before any judgement has actually happened.
SELF-sourced burnout is different, a coercive pattern that was originally imposed by someone else and has become trained into the person's own architecture, so the narrowing now happens without anyone else in the room. The two need different recovery routes, and this work does not treat them as the same thing.
Nathan Azopardi
This work started in the rockpools, watching how things moved, adapted, survived, hid, connected, and changed as the tide came in and out. People are my rockpools.
That same curiosity, carried through photography, neurobiology, and years of listening to people's stories, became Brilliantly Unbalanced, The Sessions, and Understanding Burnout. Curiosity can exist where shame would normally live.
One Thesis, Two Doors
This platform is built for the public and for professionals at the same time, with the same information, at the same depth. Nobody pays for the truth here, only for practice. Access is priced the same for both, thirty a year, no more, no less, because shared understanding is what makes accountability possible on both sides of an appointment, a classroom, or a report.
